Rohbauten (Shell Constructions)

Entitled Shell Constructions, this series is about construction sites. This experience of space has nothing to do with architecture in the sense of designed space, but rather with space as such. Thus it is completely irrelevant whether we are dealing with construction sites of famous or not so famous architects. I doubt the latter would be at all interested in my work as the documentation of his/her own work because I am photographing these spaces at a stage where not even a semblance of a signature can be discerned. The spaces at this point still have no designated function, their interiors are laid bare. In their unfinished state they are merely self-referential. An empty space has a different impact than it does furnished. What interests me is the transitory moment in the process of becoming visible, an intermediary state of architecture that disappears with the completion of the building.
