Walter Niedermayr | Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / Sanaa
This large-format volume is the first to document the long-term collaboration of the Italian photographer Walter Niedermayr and the Tokyo architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, who operate under the name SANAA. It is the marriage of two kindred forms of expression – photography and architecture – which find a common ground in this book project and are characterized by a very reductive and ephemeral quality. In their disciplines each has an artistic abstract attitude by which they investigate architecture and space according to coexistences, layers, and structures. In their work the more they avoid the sensational and the impressive, the more they develop an intuition for architecture and raise the awareness of the viewer for the essence of space and the relativity of vision.
The book was published on the occasion of a joint exhibition at DeSingel, Antwerp, 2007. The exhibition travelled on to: Arc en Rêve, Bordeaux and Accademia di Architettura, Mendrisio.
